Is this thus again the abiding paradox of "green capitalism"?
How viable could it actually be for "Labour" to somehow integrate realistic social policy with their avowed mission of ramping up the economic performance of their jurisdictive patch within the globalised capitalist economy?
Yes - but not because it would be impossible to deliver a form of 'green capitalism', but because vested interests integrated with the state will always stand in the way of this agenda. And it's our job to expose and fight those vested interests!
Indeedy Grace; there are reforms possible even under capitalism - and yes: even under this current epoch of capitalist sclerosis. And my own take is that we should always support reforms, whilst not seeing them (rather than system change) as an end in themselves. As for "Labour"; they have taken power like good bourgeoise, whilst the historic task is in fact to equitably redistribute power: specifically economic power...
Bigger thanks for the considerably effort you take in writing it, Grace!
(And I have a Waterstone's voucher, actually belated from Christmas*, which I am saving to procure the paperback "Vulture Capitalism" on the 13th of March. I have been reading the hardback in bites for aeons in the local Waterstone's which I use as my unofficial library: thus also conclusively proving how the poor are the smartest because impecunity drives resourcefulness.

Does anyone remember David Cameron saying "Lobbying will be the next big scandal"? We're still waiting for it. 🫤
Cameron was in his own lobbying scandal not long ago with Greensill!

Completely agree! Non-reformist reforms, as they say.
